Congressman Officially Qualifies as Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. — Today, Rep. Patrick Murphy officially filed his candidacy for U.S. Senate. Patrick stood alongside Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and Rep. Alan Williams as he formally entered the race for Florida’s Democratic nomination.

“Today, I’m proud to officially qualify as a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate and I look forward to representing hardworking Floridians across the state,” said Rep. Murphy. “I launched this campaign for U.S. Senate in March of last year on a promise to fight for Florida’s middle-class families, preserve Social Security and Medicare for our seniors, defend a woman’s right to choose, and protect our environment for future generations. Since then, I have been proud to share this message with voters in every corner of the state, from Pensacola to Key West, from the 1-4 corridor to my home district in Palm Beach.

“In Congress, I have a clear record of working with people to get things done. That’s exactly what the Senate needs right now and that’s why President Obama and Vice President Biden have endorsed our campaign. Our country is at a tipping point. The Supreme Court is in the balance, the gap between rich and poor continues to grow, and our criminal justice system remains broken. Florida families need a progressive fighter, and that’s why I’m running to represent all Floridians in the U.S. Senate.”
